The Carbon Fund To Offset Climate Change

With the slogan, “Reduce What You Can, Offset What You Can’t,” the Carbon Fund provides eco solutions for individuals and businesses alike. To help reduce your overall carbon footprint on the environment, they suggest to reduce energy usage, offset the amount of energy used, and to also support projects that offset carbon creation. Through this initiative, over 38 billion pounds of CO2 has been offset, 1 million trees planted, and over 200 projects supported.

Anyone is able to join the Carbon Fund, to help fight climate change and support clean energy initiatives. As an individual, you can personally help offset the average 50,000 pounds a year of carbon production created by each person. Everything from racking up air mileage and emissions from your vehicle, to the food and products you consume, contribute to your overall carbon creation that creates greenhouse gases.

The fund mentions several lifestyle changes that can help offset your personal carbon emissions. The five suggestions made are to #1. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. For each 1 pound new product that you purchase, 4-8 pounds of carbon are created from the manufacturing process alone. For #2, one can easily stop receiving junk mail, by opting out for 5 years at a time via a simple form here. The Valpak coupons that are also frequently mailed can be opted out of here. For #3, buy local whenever possible. When products are shipped across the U.S. and especially from different countries, that travel time and emissions created produces additional carbon. Overnight or air shipping also generates more carbon than shipments by truck. The #4 suggestion encourages Carbon Fund supporters to reduce the amount of meat consumed. The average vegetarian tends to create 3,ooo less pounds of carbon annually than meat eaters. Beef creates the highest amount of greenhouse gases than other forms of animal protein. Even cutting out meat for several meals a week can have an impact. Carbon reduction tip #5 urges consumers to reduce their food waste, as transporting and adding wasted food to landfills creates a lot of carbon that is released into the atmosphere. Portion control and purchasing fresh food that can be eaten in a few days can help to eliminate food waste.

Planting trees is another top priority of the Carbon Fund, as deforestation is a contributing factor to climate change. Through the process of photosynthesis, trees actually absorb carbon dioxide and convert CO2 into oxygen and sugars. The Happy Labs also has a commitment to helping prevent climate change, working with producers that practice regenerative farming and plant trees to offset any environmental impact as the result of using resources for products. Many of these initiatives are coming in 2021! To learn more about regenerative farming read more here.
